WAI Architecture Think Tank is an international studio practicing architecture, urbanism and architectural research. Founded in Brussels in 2008 by French architect, artist, author and poet, Nathalie Frankowski and Puerto Rican architect, artist, author and theorist Cruz Garcia WAI is currently based in Beijing. WAI focuses on the understanding and execution of Architecture from a panoramic approach, from theoretical texts to architectural artifacts, narrative architectures, buildings and urban and cultural conditions. WAI strives to make significant contributions to the collective intelligence of architecture, from the conception of intelligent buildings and masterplans to the production of fresh research projects and innovative publications. Of growing international interest the work of WAI has been featured in exhibitions at the MoMA, Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rehin, as well as in shows in Bratislava, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Porto, Osaka, Tokyo, Paris, Helsinki, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Ohio, Los Angeles, Dublin, London, Milan, Venice, Shanghai, and Beijing. Recent WAI publications include Pure Hardcore Icons: A Manifesto of Pure Form in Architecture (Artifice Books on Architecture, 2013), and the self-published WAIzine “What About It?”. Nathalie Frankowski is a French Architect, Artist, Author and Poet who graduated in 2008 from the department of Architecture, Art and Philosophy at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris La Villette with a Diplome d’État d’Architecture option research. Her final project “It Feels Like Home: Chez-soi entre nature et densité” received the special mention from the jury. In 2008 she co-founded WAI Architecture Think Tank as a workshop for architectural intelligentsia, and the art collective Garcia Frankowski. Of growing international interest, the architectural, art, and written work of Nathalie has been published and exhibited around the world.
Cruz García is a Puerto Rican Architect, Artist, Author and Theorist who graduated in 2008 from the Universidad de Puerto Rico with a Master Degree in Architecture after earning the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for outstanding leadership, the Henry Adams Medal for the Highest Degree and being part of the PBL Lab in Stanford University. His research thesis about Narrative Architectures from the 1920’s to the 1970’s earned him the PBDT research scholarship. In 2008 he co-founded WAI a contemporary think tank for architecture and the city. In 2008 he co-founded WAI Architecture Think Tank as a workshop for architectural intelligentsia, and the art collective Garcia Frankowski.
